About Gimli Ventures Financial Coaching

Gimli Ventures began out of a passion for helping others find the freedom that our family had found, breaking free of money stress and debt. All too many are finding that getting into debt is easy and getting out is very hard. Our family was the same. We had started my husband’s business, and we had sent him to places he needed to be to meet the right people and make the relationships necessary to grow his business. With no business acumen and no training, I did what many do and created a wall in our finances where I excused “business debt” as something we could handle when business picked up. The problem was the available credit ran out before I was anticipating it. My husband called me on a business trip to tell me that the card declined for the rental car. As you can imagine, I stood there without any answers other than that he would have to tap into our savings to get home. When he got home, we had a tough conversation about how things needed to change. I told him how afraid of the debt I was and how I had no plan to fix things. I am so grateful that my husband was on board and not angry at me for my failures.

In a time of desperation, I had to find another way of doing things. The next step was getting onto the internet to find someone smarter than me who knew what to do. Learning a way that encompassed both personal and business debt was vital. After a few stressful days, I found the program I wanted to use. It boasted that it had helped millions out of debt. That sounded like a plan I could get behind. The approach was simple to understand, but the execution required some finagling. Being somewhat of a nerd, I got to work building customized tools to help our family with a personal and a business budget. Taking that first step was the hardest, as putting all those numbers on paper was intimidating. The weird thing was once there was a plan in place, I felt relieved. There is a strength you obtain in knowing you have a path out.

At the start of our journey, we had $78,559.54 in consumer debt plus the mortgage. I had used standard methods for reducing debt that most think are smart money decisions in my past. However, they did nothing to change my habits with money. I had used debt consolidation before and ended up reusing the cards I had “paid off” and got myself in more of a pickle. In 2016, I started teaching others the program that I followed that helped me pay off my 18 short months. At the start of 2018, I became certified as a Ramsey Preferred Coach. Giving others the peace of financial freedom and giving others the capability to give themselves a better tomorrow is my goal.

The Name

All too often, people ask me where the name came from for Gimli Ventures. Sometimes, people think it is a reference to Lord of the Rings character Gimli. At the time, I hadn’t put the two together, even though I love fantasy movies. The reference for Gimli, though, refers to a story in Norse Mythology. I got interested in Norse Mythology after researching my ancestry. There is an epic battle between the Norse God(desses) and those that stood against them in this story. Long story short, the world delved into chaos, and there was a significant loss of life to both sides. When the dust settled, those that survived sought a place where they could live in peace. They built a castle where those that lived could go and find peace. The castle was built with a golden gilded roof and was supposed to be perfect. I thought this story was reasonably synonymous with the struggles that my coaching clients go through. They are stressed and perhaps fighting with their loved ones. Usually, they find themselves at a place of rock bottom where they want something better. Going through a short process, they can move to a place where they live a life of peace and prosperity.
